170,000 Bottles Of Apple Juice Pulled For Possible Toxin
More than 170,000 bottles of Martinelli’s apple juice have been recalled due to possible contamination with patulin, a toxin produced by mold that can grow in apples. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall after routine testing revealed elevated levels of the substance in a specific batch of the juice.
The affected product includes 10-ounce glass bottles of Martinelli’s Apple Juice sold in 4-packs, produced in December 2023. These bottles are part of a batch labeled with a “best by” date of December 5, 2026, and can be identified by the UPC code 0 41244 04102 2. In total, 7,234 cases, each containing 24 bottles, are involved in the recall.
S. Martinelli & Co., the company behind the brand, issued the recall voluntarily on March 18. The company emphasized that no illnesses have been reported so far and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards for its products.
The recalled juice was distributed to 28 states, including California, Texas, New York, and Florida. The company has been working closely with retailers to ensure all remaining stock from the affected batch is pulled from shelves to prevent further distribution.
