Broccoli Recalled For Potential Listeria Contamination
If you’ve recently purchased Marketside Broccoli Florets from Walmart, it’s a good idea to double-check your fridge or freezer. A recall has been issued for 12-ounce bags of broccoli after a sample tested positive for listeria bacteria. These bags, supplied by Braga Fresh in California, were distributed to more than 1,000 Walmart stores across 20 states, including Texas, California, Alaska, and Arizona.
The recalled broccoli bags are past their “best by” date of December 10, 2024. Customers who have frozen the product are also advised to inspect their stock. The contamination was detected through random testing at a Walmart location in Texas. This recall only affects the specific batches mentioned.
While there have been no reports of illness so far, the FDA is urging consumers to dispose of the affected products immediately. To determine whether your broccoli is included in the recall, look for the lot code BFFG327A6 on the front of the bag and the UPC code 6 81131 32884 5 on the back.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe health complications, particularly for vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, pregnant people, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of listeria infection may include fever, intense headaches, nausea, stomach pain, and diarrhea.
