It’s an urgent recall.
TreeHouse Foods has initiated a voluntary recall of numerous frozen waffle products sold at prominent retailers such as Walmart and Target due to concerns about possible listeria contamination. The recall was prompted by routine testing at one of the company’s manufacturing facilities, which indicated the potential presence of the harmful bacteria. Both the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Canadian food safety authorities have been notified and are monitoring the situation.
Listeria infections can range in severity. While some individuals may experience mild symptoms like fever and diarrhea, others, particularly pregnant women, infants, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems, face a greater risk of severe complications. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that approximately 1,600 people in the U.S. contract listeria each year, leading to about 260 deaths.
The recalled waffle products were distributed under several brand names, including Walmart’s Great Value, Target’s Good & Gather, and private label brands from retailers like Food Lion, Kroger, and Schnucks. TreeHouse Foods has issued a comprehensive list of the specific products impacted by the recall for consumers to check.
As of now, there have been no reported illnesses connected to the recalled items. TreeHouse Foods is working closely with food safety authorities to ensure the removal of the potentially contaminated products from store shelves and consumer households.
